Preventative Maintenance for Forklift Batteries & Chargers
Viking Power has multiple preventative maintenance service levels to ensure your material handling equipment doesn’t fail when you need it most.
Battery PM
- Record voltage reading
- Record specific gravity
- Check electrolyte and water
- Visual inspection
- Inspect single point watering system (spw)
- Inspect cables, contacts, housing, cell tops, intercell connectors, and accessories
- Provide comprehensive report of findings
Charger PM
- Visually inspect charger cabinet, cables, contacts and housing
- Vacuum out inside of charger cabinet
- Check D/C output to battery to confirm proper charging amperage
- Provide comprehensive report of findings and recommended solutions
Battery Wash
- Remove corrosion from cell tops and battery tray
- Neutralize and wash battery
- All wash water is contained and disposed of per TCEQ regulations
- $350.00 water recovery fee may apply
Weekly Watering
- Fill battery to correct level
- Visually inspect watering system
- Visually inspect the conditions of the battery
- Report any finding for possible onsite repairs
Bi-Weekly Watering
- Fill battery to correct level
- Visually inspect watering system
- Visually inspect the conditions of the battery

Importance of Preventative Maintenance
During the charge and discharge cycles of Forklift batteries, sulphate crystals gradually build up on the lead plates within each cell, negatively affecting the life and run times associated with the battery. The chemical reaction between the acid and the lead plates that produces the energy to run the forkliftis effectively suffocated, resulting in a much lower running time of the battery, meaning less productivity, and added charging costs. This sulphation process is sped up considerably due to poor maintenance and battery watering, a common problem with many forklift batteries.
